Accounting is most definitely a unique language. So why not learn it like you would any other language-by listening? Since accounting is the language of business, being accounting-illiterate can cost you dearly. Ignore your accounting and you'll pay too much in taxes. You may find yourself losing the business that you've worked so hard to build. Why risk so much when the subject of accounting is no longer difficult, obscure, or overwhelming to learn?
Radically Simple Accounting introduces a radically new way of learning accounting that successful people-from students to stars-find engaging. By taking a new approach to learning accounting that business people find intuitively easy to understand, and using common analogies and humor to reduce complex information into concepts that are easy to understand, the author has written and recorded the first user-friendly accounting book. There are four key concepts presented to help you become more profitable
- 1. Setting up your chart of account categories
- 2. Producing standard financial reports
- 3. Turning the accounting into a profit center.
- 4. Communicating with bookkeepers, tax experts, and financial advisors using their lingo
Regardless of whether you do your own bookkeeping, or manage a bookkeeper, this book will teach you how to keep score. Are you taking all possible deductions included in the book? Are you winning or losing when it comes to your business finances? After you read the book, you'll know. No matter the numbers, your GAAP financial reports will prove that you are "in the game", know the rules, and have what it takes to win. This accounting primer works with all accounting software, for all types of private businesses; and for individuals who are a 'business of one'. QuickBooks tips are included. 10% of proceeds go to charity. Order the audio version today. Start gaining control of your finances, and improving your profit tomorrow. I heard you on the radio about 3 months ago on WNZF in Flagler Beach FL. I immediately bought your book and I finally had time to finish it on Kindle. I was blown away after reading only 25%!I am a bookkeeper with a business partner and an almost 3 year-old very small but growing business, specializing in small businesses and entrepreneurs. I have been working with Quicken and taught others how to use it for as long as it has been around, and QuickBooks for 15 years. I worked on paper before all that. Yup, I'm pretty old.
I am not a schooled bookkeeper. Early on, I took a few QuickBooks lessons from a certified professional, but mostly I have been self-taught, had OTJ training, and been approved by the tax professionals I work with. I've read other books and learned little. Your ability to take some complicated bookkeeping concepts and put simple words to them and insert some humor taught me more than I’ve learned in a long time.
Radically Simple Accounting is the book I would have loved to have written had I achieved the level you are. I applaud you for your background and accomplishments. My mouth dropped several times in the first 2 chapters because I use a few of the tricks you use and I thought I made them up! e.g. Putting a "z" before an account or a file no longer in use but needed.
I completely agree with you when you say that bookkeeping is a science and an art. I use both sides of my brain pretty well and I have always thought that. I love puzzles and consider my profession as putting together puzzles. I don't like not having all the pieces, however. Also, we've had to fire a couple clients because they wanted us to be too creative.
I find that the hardest part of earning new clients is that they don't seem to understand how crucial bookkeeping is. I know there is so much more I could do for some if they let me. I loved your chapters on analyzing clients’ finances with reports to help them see how they can become more profitable. We have clients who are finally starting to listen, because now I am armed with the words you gave me to help me inform them. We are extending our services to estate bookkeeping.
I wrote this because I cannot praise you enough for putting so many of my own thoughts to paper, and reaffirming my chosen work. I didn't mean it to be a litany, but thank you if you have read this far.
My very best regards,
Joanna Christus

Radically Simple Accounting A Way out of the Dark and Into the Profit (Audible Audio Edition) Madeline Bailey LLC QC Computing Books Reviews
I am a CPA in public practice and I highly recommend this book. Radical Accounting amazed me with how simply Madeline explains accounting for small businesses. She captivates the reader with charm and humor while enlightening non-accountants with the basics necessary to running a business. I have encountered huge disasters in client's Quick Books files. The resulting bill to the client is commensurate with the quality of their accounting system.
Chapter 3 "Liberation from Chaos" is exactly that! As a CPA, we advise our clients to do what they do best - their specialty - and leave the accounting to us. With a clean set of books you can easily manage the necessary bookkeeping to pass your files to your Accountant at year end. I do recommend you consult your Accountant before making changes. Your goal is good, clean books and a smaller tax bill at year end!
I met Madeline a year ago at a meeting of the Professional Society of Women Accountants and bought her book. It sat on my shelf until my sister visited me in New Orleans and read it cover to cover. She has been a small business owner for 30 years and after reading it said she finally understood the full picture. She was eagerly anticipating going home and refining her chart of accounts.
I am absolutely convinced that if I had purchased this book back when I opened my small business, it would still be open! Madeline makes, what can be for the new business owner, an overwhelming topic and process accessible. I found myself longing for another chance to use what I've learned by reading her book. Her experience and good humor make this book a pleasure to read, and one that I refer back to again and again. I highly recommend it to anyone either beginning their journey in business ownership or for anyone looking to get a firmer grasp on their finances. THANK YOU for writing this book!!
I recently started a pedicab company down in Austin Texas. I started mainly focusing on getting the business up and running, without much thought to accounting, while looking around the local bookstore I noticed this book and started reading. Its a book to read start to finish. Once your done you will know exactly what you need to do in a straight and easy to understand way. The only downfall of the book is that I wish there were more Quickbook tips. If you are wondering how to get your business into a situation where you can easily understand and communicate what is happening with all aspects of your company finances then GET THIS BOOK.
I also recommend this book to anyone in school taking accounting classes. I gave it to an employee who is taking classes here at the University of Texas in Austin and it helped him out a bunch, he is getting much better scores, because the knowledge gained from this book is tremendous and in just a nice short package, its convenient for even the busiest of people.
Go get it and read it, it WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER!!!!
This was designed to sell software and was of little value to me. I would not recommend it to anyone.
Great book! Very easy to understand basic accounting concepts. An easy read and highly recommended!
This little book is a must-have desk reference for bookkeepers and accountants. I never thought accounting could be so entertaining. Madelaine explains accounting principles with a simple and straight forward approach. It should be required reading material for bookkeepers in training. As I train new bookkeepers for my clients, I am recommending they read this book. I find it also a great resource on how to explain accounting principles to non-accountants. Thanks Madelaine for a wonderfully witty training powerhouse!
Madeline dispels the myth that only Accountants can unlock and understand the puzzle that is accounting. She gives you a simple and efficient way to keep your books up-to-date, understand your reports and keep your business viable and growing. I highly recommend this book for anyone who owns a small business.
