Halting Negative Thinking - 4 Steps to Success

The human mind possesses a great deal of ability and power that is untapped. How many times have you had a flash of inspiration, only to turn around and defeat the thought through pondering all the ways it might feel, how it isn't realistic or reasonable, etc? The brain can bring about large and positive changes, but it must be freed of the bonds of negative thinking first. Here are 4 steps to letting go of the negative and creating space for the positive thought process to take over and make things happen:

1.       Take the time to take care of yourself physically. This means eating healthy, mostly unprocessed organic foods whenever possible. Take vitamins and supplements as needed a good food based multivitamin and fish oil are a good start. A naturopath can help you with the right menu of supplements for your particular needs. Exercise regularly, doing cardio workouts, as this will increase your endorphins levels and elevate your mood.

2.      Release your anger toward others. Anger that consumes you and no longer serves you as a forward impetus for constructive change in your life isn't helpful as you attempt to embrace positive thinking. First, let yourself feel the strong emotion of anger in full force. Then, allow for the possibility that the person who wronged you did the best he or she could with whatever he or she had to work with, even if those tools were inadequate or hurtful. Next, envision releasing that person to the universe, to whatever may be in store for him or her, letting go of the responsibility for punishing him or her. Imagine possible benefits of going through the experience. 

3.      Stop repetitive negative thoughts. If they trouble you excessively, try imagining a big red "X' through the image in your mind and say the word "stop" or "cancel" aloud.

4.      Embrace the fantasies and daydream about the positive things you desire. Imagine your desires in full detail, using all your senses. Visualize how it will feel, smell, look, sound, and taste to have the positive goal you are seeking. You will find greater motivation to do the work toward accomplishing your goals, and find that they manifest into your life.
